This skin cover offers protection, improves grip on the phone (that is, it makes the phone less slippery), and fits the iPhone 3G snugly. Some reviewers complain about not offering great protection. If you want extra protection, I suggest you get this skin in addition to the following (very inexpensive) product:

Your phone will fit perfectly in that case with the skin on (and actually the skin helps it stay in the case). I bought both, thinking I would use one or the other. I find that they work fine together, and the case prevents me from accidentally calling up people. The only drawback is that the skin attracts some dust because of static.

This is one cool-looking, sleek iPhone case. Given that a lot of these plastic cases go for $30+ the price is fantastic . As others have noted, however, this case has no durability whatsoever. I had mine for 3 weeks until I dropped my phone while attempting to get my car keys out of my pocket. The case shattered instantly. Still, for the cheap price you get what you pay for. I actually ordered another one because of its handsome look. Don't fool yourself though, this case does not afford any phone protection.

Very little money paid to lessen the chance that my IPhone 3G is damaged if dropped.

I have dropped my IPhone many times with this 'skin' on the phone and have no damage to it yet.

Remember that you cannot get insurance for this phone!

Something that I overlooked when buying.

This skin cover allows the iphone ot go very easily in.....but out too! If you carry the iphone in your pocket it is quite easy that after 2 months of use the iphone starts to slip out of the skin. It also gets pretty dusty on the inside and outside. But well, for the price, it is still ok as a replacement.
